The way the tech giant has football fans covered this year is quite awesome. According to Google, for the first time, by simply searching for “world cup” or “world cup [team name]” fans will be able to browse team lineups before the match, live scores, and even up to the minute information about goals and player stats. That’s pretty cool we think.
“Also new for this year’s tournament, you don’t even have to search to get updates on your favorite teams—just open Google Now. You’ll be given an option to start seeing cards with stats about each match that you can tap for more detail,” says Google.
But that is not all. Google Trends will act as your real-time guide to the players, teams and moments that are capturing the world’s attention.
“At google.com/worldcup you can explore these moments throughout the tournament, whether it’s insight on how a country is feeling ahead of a big match, or where fans stand on a controversial game-winning call,” says the search mammoth on its blog.
Trends will give users more than just updates and guides but a feel of how people are reacting to the games. According to the company, for the first time it will record sentiment and explore how an entire country is feeling — whether optimistic or anxious — as reflected through search trends and public Google+ conversations.
Trends will also look at the world focus for every match, discovering which teams are getting the world’s attention. As well as the top questions asked by the audience, this section allows users to track to trending questions before, during and after games. It will also let you know who the rising stars are, players to watch and how they rank in search compared with their teammates.
Google is not the only tech company finding ways to bring you closer to the beautiful game; Facebook and Twitter have also put together their nuggets of online football awesomeness.
