Making every single loss that much worse, social media (especially Twitter) is not a good place for the Brazilian football team right now. In a recording setting defeat for the country, last night the German football team beat the host nation 7-1, knocking the hopeful South American nation out of the tournament.
A much talked about game, the heat map for this match pulsated at crucial intervals of the game making it the most talked about game on social media since the start of the tournament.

According to Twitter’s stats the game saw a record breaking 35.6-million tweets making it the most talked about sporting event ever (beating Superbowl 48 with 24.9 million tweets).
The social network says that the match set a tweet per minute (TPM) record with German midfielder Sami Khedira’s goal with 580 166 TPM. The previous World Cup TPM peak was 388 985 when Brazil knocked out Chile on penalties (June 28th). Miroslav Klose was the most mentioned player during the game for #GER, after becoming the all-time record goal scorer in World Cup.
The tweets that came in during and after the game were less that complementary of the Brazilian team, who in the previous game had lost it star player Neymar da Silva Santos. There were a few sympathetic tweets but mostly Twitter was filled with facepalming, snark, Game of Thrones references and Christ the Redeemer memes.
If we were the Brazilian team, we would stay far away from the internet today. Below are some tweet highlights from the social media commentary of the game:
Brazil have Neymar.
Portugal have Ronaldo
Argentina have Messi
and
Germany have a team .
