The internet can sometimes be a confusing place — I mean, how do you keep up with all the cats? Pet food brand Friskies has solution: rank them.

The company recently launched the Friskies 50, which it is calling the “definitive guide to the most influential cats on the internet”. The dedicated site measures each cat’s social media reach, engagement rates across platforms as well as mentions in traditional news articles and slots them into the list accordingly. It also provides the internet’s cat-lovers with a list of the most popular felines to follow, with quick links to their Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Instagram pages.

So, who is winning the race? The leader is easy to guess, but in case you were wondering, the top 5 looks like this:

According to Friskies, they have already gathered a catalogue of over 250 notable cats, as well as their respective social media accounts. “Friskies is committed to being a leader in internet cat culture,” explains senior brand manager Shaun Belongie. “We saw an opportunity to help cat lovers navigate the crazy, wonderful world of internet cats with the Friskies 50.”

The Friskies 50 will refresh monthly, showing movement up or down the ranks with coloured arrows and marking newcomers with a gold star. Currently, the list includes favourites like Hamilton the Hipster Cat, Lil Bub, Roku, Sam Has Eyebrows and Colonel Meow. Fans can submit new cats for consideration by filling in a short online form with the animal’s social media links and name.

This isn’t the first time that Friskies has tapped into the powerful intersection of cats and the web — it’s previously collaborated with the likes of Grumpy Cat and Nala Cat, run a YouTube game show called ‘Will Kitty Play with It?‘ and partnered with Buzzfeed to produce a hit video called ‘Dear Kitten‘.
