Just ask Instagram, which now has 300-million users, snapping over 70-million selfies, sunsets and sandwiches every day. Yup, Instagram is now bigger than the likes of Twitter.
In its announcement, the Facebook-owned photo filter app said it’s also going to launch a handy verification badge for better authentication (and sorting out the plebs from the celebs of course).
This means that you’re likely to see a follower drop, for those of you keeping tab.
In a blog post the company elaborates:
Finally, as more people join, keeping Instagram authentic is critical — it’s a place where real people share real moments. We’re committed to doing everything possible to keep Instagram free from the fake and spammy accounts that plague much of the web, and that’s why we’re finishing up some important work that began earlier this year.
Seventy percent of Instagram’s groupies come from outside the US, while the platform is responsible for 30-billion photos posted on the web so far.
Twitter is held dear by 284 million monthly active users.
As we reported last month, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube and even Google+ all grew faster than Facebook. Tumblr, Facebook Messenger and Instagram are the fastest growing social networks today.
It should be pointed out that, unlike popular blogging space Tumblr, Instagram and Facebook are among the many domains blocked in China withholding access to over half a billion smartphone users. Imagine if they get to crack that egg!
