Ever since Apple announced the pricing for the top-of-the-range version of its smart watch, there’s been one question on everyone’s mind: why would anyone drop that much on a device that’ll probably be defunct in two years’ time?

The obvious answer, as College Humor points out, is so that they can show people that they’re wealthy enough to do so.

It makes sense too. After all, you won’t get any more functionality out the gold US$10 000 watch than you will out of the ordinary US$349 one. We would say that spending that much extra based on a material that humans have placed an arbitrary value on marks you out as an easy mark for con-artists but you probably have people to deal with that any way.
