Spotify introduces adaptable songs for runners, videos and audio clips

Spotify has introduced its coolest feature yet. From now on, runners can listen to music that adapts to the speed of their running. Spotify Running, according to the company, allows runners never to miss a beat. This feature is one of the many that Spotify introduced yesterday.

“We want Spotify to help soundtrack your life by offering an even wider world of entertainment with an awesome mix of the best music, podcasts and video delivered to you throughout your day” the company said.

To make up the product, Spotify, says that it teamed up DJs and composers to create music that suits user’s listening history. The music is all tuned to the user’s tempo and seamlessly transitioned to ensure they never miss a beat. The way it works is that Spotify users can start running and the feature will detect their tempo, and match it with the perfect music in time to your step, making users better, faster, stronger runners.

Running Originals, the music that Spotify has created from scratch, features six original tracks, which can be found within Spotify Running. There is also songs by Dance Move of the Day produced by Amy Poehler’s Smart Girls brand.

The feature will also come to the company’s partnership with Nike. Later this year, users can access the new Spotify Running experience through the Nike+ app. Spotify running will also be integrating in the RunKeeper app later this year.

Another feature Spotify has introduced is the Now start page. The page is designed such that it plays your favourite music when it is appropriate. Say for example you need a Monday morning playlist to fight the Monday blues or a Friday evening playlist to get you in a party mood, the Now experience will sort you out. The music is selected from Spotify’s in-house experts and your personal collection. The feature will be more accurate as time goes on, Spotify says, as it will adapt over time until it perfectly fits your taste and mood.

Spotify is also adding video clip and audio audio shows.

“We know there are times in the day you want to switch between music to catch up on the latest news, listen to your favourite podcast or simply watch something fun” the company said.
The clips will come from likes of ABC, BBC, Comedy Central, Condé Nast Entertainment, ESPN, Fusion, Maker Studios, NBC, TED and Vice News, with much more to come.

The Now experience will begin rolling out today to iPhone users in the US, UK, Germany and Sweden. Other markets and platforms will follow in the coming months. Spotify Running will start rolling out to iPhone users globally today.
