A few weeks back, we reported that popular infidelity website Ashely Madison had been hacked. Hacker group Impact Team, threatened to release user data it had acquired if the website wasn’t taken down by parent company, Avid Life Media. All user details have now been leaked.
The account details of an estimated 32-million users of the social networking site have been dumped online for the world to see.

The data leak includes information of the estimated 175 000 South Africans, who are probably not having a great week with their spouses.
The file is 9.7GB in size and was dumped to the dark web, only accessible through the Tor browser. All information is an accumulation of seven year’s worth of user details, ranging back to 2007.
Wired reports that the data amounts to millions of payment transactions and includes names, street address, and email address of users.

While some people on social media have been calling this a good thing due to exposing those who have used the website’s services, it is in fact an incredibly dangerous and potentially damaging action that has been taken.
The amount of user details and credit card information now available calls into question website security. Operators of similar websites will have to increase their security measures in the future to combat such things.
The official statement from Impact Group:
Avid Life Meida has failed to take down Ashley Madison and Established Men. We have explained the fraud, deceit, and stupidity of ALM and their members. Now everyone gets to see their data.
Fine someone you know in here? Keep in mind the site is a scam with thousands of fake female profiles. See ashley madison fake profile lawsuit; 90-95% of actual users are male. Chances are your man signed up on the world’s biggest affair site, but never had one. He just tried to. If that distinction matters.
Find yourself in here? It wasa ALM that failed you and lied to you. Prosecute them and claim damages. Then move on with your life. Learn your lesson and make amends. Embarrassing now, but you’ll get over it.
