There is no stopping WhatsApp. The ad-free instant messaging service today passed the 900-million monthly active users mark.
The announcement came via a Facebook update from WhatsApp founder Jan Koum, who was at Facebook’s Menlo Park headquarters at the time.

To put that in perspective, when Facebook bought WhatsApp back in February 2014, it had fewer than 600-million users.
It’s also up 100-million users from the 800-million it announced back in April.

“Congrats to Jan, the WhatsApp team and whole community on reaching 900 million people!” Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in follow-up post.
It’s a pretty impressive achievement for a company that started out with very little and stayed lean for most of its existence — it had just 35 employees at the time of the Facebook acquisition.
The service started out as a pretty straightforward instant messenger before adding a host of additional features, including voice notes, image attachments, and voice calls.
