Naspers-owned ShowMax on Sunday announced a deal with FNB, which will allow eBucks users to subscribe to the video-streaming service using prepaid vouchers.
According to a press release sent to Memeburn, the vouchers come in one, three, and six-month denominations and can be debited directly from a customer’s account, or paid for using eBucks. Depending on a member’s rewards level, a discount of up to 40% is applicable on the six-month voucher.

“We’re really pleased to get FNB’s eBucks on board as our first partner”, said Chris Savides, Head of Payments and Partnerships for ShowMax. “It’s a trusted brand and a well-established electronic retailer, which is exactly what we were looking for.”

The video-streaming service, which launched in August, says that FNB is the first partner to distribute the vouchers, but adds that it plans to bring physical versions of the vouchers into retail stores at later date.
This, its says, would be another first for the subscription video on demand industry in South Africa, adding that it’s something of a necessity in the South African market, where credit cards are just one of the payment methods commonly used.
“Getting payments right is a key to building your customer base in South Africa, and we’ve had a lot of requests to add additional payment methods. Having multiple voucher options gives ShowMax an advantage over other services,” said Savides.

It’s also no accident that the vouchers are launching just ahead of the festive season, with ShowMax looking to capitalise on people buying them as gifts.
“ShowMax vouchers will definitely come in handy when you’re looking for a gift for that hard to buy for partner or relative,” said Savides. “The great news is that one subscription can be used to watch two different shows at the same time on separate devices, so this is a gift that can work for you and for your loved ones”.
A one-month ShowMax voucher costs R99, the three-month voucher is priced at R297, and the six-month voucher is R594 with a discount of up to 40% available at the eBucks Shop.
