Uber introduces ‘Ride Request Button’ for third party apps

Uber has launched a ‘Ride Request Button’ that will allow developers to add an Uber button in their apps. The button is in a form of a software development kit that iOS and Android app developers can use to add Uber support to their own apps. The idea, ultimately, is that users can order an Uber ride from third party apps.

The button will be visible in third party apps next to their addresses, allowing it to be easily accessible to users, enabling them to instantly get a ride to their destination. Adding the button requires developers to register their app on the Uber Developer Dashboard to add the Ride Request Button to iOS or Android.

Developers also have room for creativity with the button, they can configure and display it next to every address or ‘intent to ride’ in their app. Developers, according to Uber, can optimise the button by adding additional information to their button, such as like pickup location, destination, product and more.

Once the button has been installed into a third party app, existing users will be deep-linked into the Uber app with their ride pre-configured, making the process seamless. New users will be directed to download the app from the App Store.

There is also an incentive for developers, if you are a States-based developer, and you sign up for Uber’s Affiliate program, you can earn money for every new US-based rider that takes Uber using their button integration.
