Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World trailer, a Werner Herzog film on technology

Werner Herzog’s latest film is a documentary called Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World. The doccie is about the internet and runs for about 98 minutes on screen. It is divided into 10 sub narrative parts, each with its own storyline, all exploring the people who conceive, create, protect, advance, those who fear the unattainable capabilities of the internet and those who exist in spite of it.

There is no filmmaker who commands to be listened to as much as Herzog does. Not only is it his distinct voice, accent and articulation but the manner in which he can tell a story, even the seemingly most mundane. Take his 2007 documentary Encounters At The End Of The World, before you meet any of characters, when he is setting the scene with the big trucks moving about, not doing much but already his voice intrigues or in his 2005 Grizzly Man and see how he narrates that doccie, drawing the audience in.

This is not Werner Herzog’s first exploration of the tech world. In 2013, he made a 35 minute long haunting documentary on texting whilst driving. The doccie, titled From One Second to the Next, interviews victims and perpetrators to show the devastating effects of texting while driving.
