Suicide Squad trailer shows us DC movies don’t need to brood

Being released after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad hasn’t really been in DC’s marketing spotlight, but its first trailer is about to change all of that.

Suicide Squad features a band of villains hired by the US government to complete dangerous missions. Yes, it’s a tale that’s been told before, but the characters are what set it apart from other stories. The squad features Dead Shot (Will Smith), Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), and Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). We also get to see Jared Leto’s Joker in action for the first time, and while this iteration has already been compared to the late Heath Ledger’s “Why so serious?” Joker, Leto’s looks to fit the style of this film universe.

The trailer starts off with the intro to Queen’s extremely popular Bohemian Rhapsody playing in the background. The tune manages to accentuate the onscreen visuals, which are crazy and outlandish in every way. In fact, the majority of the trailer consists of explosions, fighting, and all-out craziness. Could this actually be a competitor to Marvel’s Deadpool movie?

Suicide Squad seems to be taking the complete opposite approach to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Instead of releasing several trailers, constant actor and character updates, and giving away a large portion of the plot — which may indicate how worried Warner Bros. are about the movie — Suicide Squad gives us a rundown of the characters, shows a ton of action and that’s about it. In fact, it also shows us that DC doesn’t have to take dark and gritty approaches to its films. They could learn a thing or two from Marvel and Disney.

The Suicide has already received their own feature film in the form of the animated Batman: Assault on Arkham.
