This is interesting. Zambia’s capital Lusaka is set to get a solar-powered WiFi network, courtesy of a company called Plexus Wifi.
The pay-as-you-go network is the brainchild of Allan Okello of City Wifi UK and aims to bring “fast, resilient and affordable internet to residents and businesses of Zambia”.

According to a press release sent to Memeburn, Plexus Wifi has built its network on the premise of ‘fibre through the air’ using “world class cutting edge technology to delivery broadband performance without the need for a single cable or modem on the users’ side”.
Internet users will be able to purchase vouchers from mobile top up distributors as well as mobile money and Paypal (including credit/ debit cards). Top ups will come in daily, weekly and monthly vouchers and will cost around US$2, US$10, and US$20 respectively in local currency.
