Uber launches Family Profiles, a seamless way to order rides for children, friends, colleagues

On-demand transportation service Uber has now launched Family Profiles for easier ride-sharing. This new addition should make ordering an Uber easier for friends, parents, children, and co-workers.

In a blog post, Uber says the feature is a result of how consumers use their service on a daily basis, ordering rides for children, parents and friends.

This could work well for parents that need to drive their children to and from extra-mural activities. Kids would be able to simply order an Uber, whilst the parents get on with other engagements.

Setting up Family Profiles involves two parties, the organiser and the rider. The organiser creates the profile, sends an invite to the selected rider, who accepts to join. The rider can then order rides and pay for them through the Family Profiles system on their own app.

The company says that the feature allows users to add as much as up to 10 riders.

The process of ordering a ride remains the same, which means it is now a much easier option than ordering a ride for someone else, especially if the pickup location is far away.

“While we’ve called this feature Family Profiles, we let you decide who is family. It’s a great way to help loved ones, friends or coworkers get where they want to go while you foot the bill. Whether you’re a parent with kids away at college or a daughter wanting to help your parents maintain their independence, it’s never been easier to share some Uber love around to the people that matter most in your life,” writes Uber.

Family Profiles is launching in Atlanta, Dallas and Phoenix first and then will roll out to other markets in the near future.
