Finding Dory remains South Africa’s most popular movie this week [2016/06/28]

Over the past weekend (24 to 26 June), SA movie-goers were still amped about Finding Dory. The kid-friendly flick started off strong in the local box office last week and is still holding first place. Some other titles, however, are not doing as well.

Blizzard Entertainment’s big-screen video game adaptation, WarCraft (review), has slipped from the second to sixth spot, which is quite a tumble.

The magician-centric Now You See Me: The Second act has also taken a two spot tumble.

Both Alice Through the Looking Glass and X-Men: Apocalypse (review), are no longer sitting in any top ten positions. For movies of their magnitude, the success was short-lived.

Newcomer Independence Day 2: Resurgence has opened in third place, but given its less than stellar reviews, the movie is expected to fall a few spots in the coming weeks.

Interestingly, The Conjuring 2 (review), has actually climbed a spot from fifth to fourth place. This really is a win for horror movies.

Here are 10 most-watched movies in SA this past weekend:

  1. Finding Dory (including 3D and Imax)
  2. Central Intelligence
  3. Independence Day 2: Resurgence (Including 3D, Imax, and 4DX)
  4. The Conjuring 2
  5. Now You See Me: The Second Act
  6. WarCraft (including 3D)
  7. Angry Birds (including 3D)
  8. Mrs Right Guy
  9. The Nice Guys
  10. Money Monster
