Select MyCiti buses in Cape Town now feature free WiFi

MyCiti has announced that several buses in the Cape Town city centre will receive free WiFi connectivity as part of a pilot.

“MyCiTi’s pilot on-board WiFi offering will provide each passenger with 50MB of data free every day from any WiFi enabled device, such as a smartphone, tablet or laptop computer. The service also provides free value-added content, such as news, weather and other multimedia, over and above the daily 50MB data limit,” the bus service confirmed on its website.

The bus service said commuters can use their credit cards to purchase more data when they’ve depleted their caps.

“Users who have an existing internet account at home that includes access to public WiFi hotspots, such as AlwaysOn, G-Connect and MWEB, can simply log in for internet access.”

MyCiti explained that connectivity would gradually be included on other buses.

The news comes several months after the Western Cape revealed a network of WiFi hotspots across the province.
