Set in a women’s prison, Orange Is The New Black is a wildly popular series. But did you know that the latest season, which dropped on Friday 17 June, also affected porn statistics?
According to the ever-reliable Pornhub Insights blog, the new season resulted in a spike in lesbian- and prison-related search terms in the 48 hours after its release.

Searches for ‘lesbian’ and ‘prison’ topped out at 59% on the Saturday, while searches for ‘prison’ or ‘jail’ peaked on Sunday (hitting 21%).

Pornhub noted that ‘lesbian prison guard’ saw the biggest spike, increasing by 475% over ‘prison lesbian’ (399%) and black prison lesbians (259%).
As for top searches containing ‘prison’ and/or ‘jail’, ‘female prison’ was on top, increasing 264% compared to black prison sex (191%) and ‘real prison’ (175%).
Searches for ‘lesbian’ and ‘prison’ were also up 67% among women and 30% among men, Pornhub stated.
Queries for ‘jail’ and ‘prison’ were up 26% among women and 14% for men.
The show itself is one of the most-watched on television, with its season four ratings falling behind only Games Of Thrones. 6.7-million people tuned in to watch the season’s premiere, with 5.9-million catching the second episode.
