Today Twitter has announced that it’s increasing the size of GIFs users can embed in tweets. Previously the size was 5MB, but Twitter’s expanding it to three times that.
The 15MB-sized GIFs are not available on the Twitter app for now and Twitter has not mentioned when this addition will happen. This should at least alleviate some concern for users with limited mobile data plans.

In 2015, the company claimed that over 100-million GIFs are shared on the platform. The new change appears to be in line with those numbers.

Earlier this year, the company partnered with Giphy and Riffys to offer users a wide range of GIFs, allow them to search for GIFS, and use the mini videos in DMs. Twitter has since been tweaking these features.
“So much can be expressed with GIFs, and the key is to find just the right one in the moment that quickly and efficiently expresses your emotions,” said CEO and co-founder of Riffsy, David McIntosh.
Interestingly, the image size has not changed and still remains at 5MB.
