Another day, another snarky hashtag on South Africa’s Twittersphere. This edition of the Local General Elections has been quite a rollercoaster ride on the social network, with #VotingPickupLines trending earlier this week, highlighting the cute and often creepy things fellow voters say to one another, and the more serious #RememberKhwezi, reminding the nation that rape culture should be discussed and never ignored.
But while our thumbs are stained, and our votes now fully counted, it’s the political parties’ turn to look one another in the eye.

Thanks to the few parties who managed to secure majorities in major metros (the DA in Cape Town, and the ANC in eThekwini), the likes of Johannesburg, Tshwane, Nelson Mandela Bay and eKurhuleni will require coalitions for the winning parties to govern outright.

Considering that most of these parties will likely consider forming coalitions in their respective metros, Twitter has been giving the likes of the ANC, DA and EFF few tips on which songs to add to their coalition mixtapes.
