Tim Cook kicked off with an Apple Music announcement, revealing artists for the company’s 10th Apple Music Festival, and a number of other milestones from the company’s music stable.
Apple’s iPhone is the ‘best selling device of its kind in history’
Notably though, Tim Cook also revealed that the service now has 17-million subscribers, 30-million songs and it played host to over 70 new, exclusive releases on its platform in 2016.

Tim Cook also spoke of the company’s commitment to education in its ConnectED programme. According to the company’s CEO, Apple now supports 114 schools in the US, granting learners and teachers iPads, Apple Macs and Apple MacBooks.
140-billion
Of course, an integral part of the company’s backbone is its App Store. Apple now boasts 500 000 games on the platform, which is pretty huge considering its non-gaming image. Beyond games, apps have been downloaded a total of 140-billion times since is launch.

Since its launched 18 months ago, the Apple Watch has propelled Apple to the number two watchmaker spot in the world, just behind Rolex. According to Tim Cook, the Apple Watch is also the world’s best-selling smartwatch.
900-million
After Apple announced that the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will not have headphone jacks, the company leapt to defend its decision with a number. 900-million is currently the number of Lightning-enabled devices in the world. It’s a proprietary connection standard developed by Apple, but does feature on a few other devices too.
90%
Although Apple Pay isn’t yet in South Africa, the US has adopted it wholeheartedly, according to Tim Cook. The wireless mobile payments platform is responsible for over 90% of wireless ecommerce transactions in the country.
1-billion
This is the total number of iPhones sold since the device’s very first launch in 2007 — nearly nine-years ago. Apple didn’t shed any light on the iPhone 6 family’s sales figures.
Schiller noted that it is the “best selling product of its kind in history.”
