Sports broadcaster SuperSport has experimented with new technologies and trends quite a bit this year. From broadcasting eSports events to featuring more live content on social media, the company is slowly drifting away from its satellite roots.
In its latest move, the company announced that it will broadcast tonight’s Mandela Legacy T20 Cup cricket match from Newlands, Cape Town, live on its Facebook channel.

The match, which sees the South African cricket team face the South African rugby team in honour of former South African president Nelson Mandela, is an annual event usually reserved for audiences signed up to DStv. It’s now in its third year, and ultimately raises funds for the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
The match will be livestreamed on SuperSport’s Facebook page starting at 5.30pm
“In the spirit of the event, we also want to ensure that as many people as possible have the chance to watch what is always a fun event,” explains SuperSport CEO Gideon Khobane.
This isn’t the first time SuperSport has taken to Facebook’s Live video broadcasting platform though. It previously aired the Varsity Cup football final on the social network earlier this year.
The match will kick off at 5.30pm, and can be livestreamed from Facebook here.
