So you want to know more about some of the movies debuting this month? Well, you’ve come to the right place. In this new monthly series, we take a look back at some of the biggest trailers to debut in the previous month. And well, obviously, it’s January’s turn.

Power Rangers

The announcement of a new Power Rangers movie was met with mixed feelings. Some thought it best to leave the franchise be, while others undoubtedly rejoiced. Since the trailer has dropped though, its view count has skyrocketed to over 22-million and over 120 000 likes.

Power Rangers will follow the lives of five teenagers who uncover strange tokens which will change their lives forever. Directing the reboot will be South African director/producer Dean Israelite, the man behind Project Almanac.

War for the Planet of the Apes

Since the classic sci-fi movie Planet of the Apes was released in 1968, no one really thought there would be an addition to the franchise, let alone three.

But here we are, and they were surprisingly good. Now, the third chapter will see Caesar facing off with a ruthless colonel, in what could be a fight to determine the fate of both species. Matt Reeves will be directing what could be the final chapter, having worked on projects such as Felicity, Let Me In and Under Siege 2.

Logan

When word got out that a final Hugh Jackman Wolverine movie was in the works, theorists and fans alike were excited to see what it would be about. When it was announced at ComicCon, thousands of fans cheered for joy.

Logan will cover the relationship between Wolverine and what presumably is Weapon-23, Weapon X clone. Also, according to JackmanLogan will be set in a different universe to the X-Men franchise.

John Wick: Chapter 2

Let’s admit it to ourselves right now, John Wick was a pretty entertaining movie. Which is why the next instalment will have to live up to the hype generated from original. John Wick: Chapter 2 takes place a few days after the first movie, when John is forced back out of retirement by a blood oath to help a former associate.

The film will not only star “the one” himself (Keanu Reeves) but also Laurence Fishburne, so hopefully, we’ll see some Matrix action going on.

King Arthur

Film theorists go into investigation mode whenever Guy Ritchie’s name is attached to a project. King Arthur, written and directed by Guy Ritchie, won’t be the same as the children’s story — this one will be a lot darker. Running the back streets of Londinium, he’s forced to face his royal lineage when he pulls the mythical sword from stone.

This, as he later finds out, will send the world into chaos and will see nations fighting for their survival.

Baywatch

Ever since David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson graced our screens, the world has been fascinated with Baywatch. The new movie pays tribute to the cheesy one-liners from the Hoff and Pamela’s slow-mo running.

Featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Zac Efron, it’s bound to rival the comedic genius of the Jump Street franchise.

Beauty and the Beast

Iconic Disney princess Belle will be portrayed by Potter series princess, Emma Watson. This harrowing tale of love and acceptance will aim to blow audiences away… or it’ll probably end up being like the Huntsman franchise. What a shame that would be.

But, with much despair, there’s often great hope, and I’m hoping this will be a good movie to finally give live-action Disney fairytales a good foundation to work with.
