Game of Thrones fans rejoice: the great war is here.

Yesterday, the Game of Thrones Twitter announced the much-awaited release date on a live stream with Jaime Lannister actor Nikolai Coster-Waldau.

The date — 16 July 2017 — was hidden behind ice that was melted as watchers commented “fire” or “dracarys”.

After the date was revealed, a teaser was posted to Twitter.

The teaser features sound bites from previous seasons over a menacing statue of the House animals, which eventually crumbles to the ground.

“Lannister, Targaryen, Baratheon, Stark, Tyrell, they’re all just spokes in a wheel,” everyone’s favourite unhinged Khaleesi says. “This one’s on top, then that one’s on top and on and on it spins — crushing those on the ground.”

Fantasy-action series Game of Thrones debuted on HBO in 2011, and still holds a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes

The animals fall.

Oh, the drama of it all.

Of course, fans were more than a little excited at any news they could get their hands on.

The release came a day after the HBO show revealed it’s first official trailer, letting us know that both ice and fire will play a part in the seventh season. Shocking.

Now if only George R.R. Martin could give us even the ballpark year Winds of Winter will be released.

(Or perhaps the real winter is the one we’ve found during the wait.)
