Instagram Stories debuts ‘Geostickers’ for NYC and Jakarta

Instagram Stories just became slightly more convenient for jet-setters and travel bloggers.

Instagram has this week announced the introduction of Geostickers, which is awfully similar to Snapchat’s Geofilters. These contextual, geographically-relevant stickers are only available for New York City and Jakarta at present, but this is likely a simple trial for more cities to come.

But how does it work? Well, similarly to the service’s traditional stickers with a few added perks.

“When you take a photo or video and tap the sticker icon, you’ll see geostickers at the top,” Instagram explains.

“No matter where you are in New York City or Jakarta, you’ll see a custom sticker for that city.”

Instagram Stories’ Geostickers will help travellers to NYC and Jakarta give their story rolls some frilly context

The company also explains that jumping to different regions within the city will provide posters with stickers “designed to match the vibe of the location it represents”. Tapping the sticker as well will also take Story viewers to the location’s page.

“You can add as many stickers as you want, adjust their size and placement and mix and match with other creative tools,” the company elaborates.

Instagram notes that more “creative tools” are heading to the platform soon.

Geostickers are available for iOS and Android users running the latest version of the app.
