South African internet service provider (ISP) Afrihost has today announced that it will cut the prices of its fibre packages.
This moves comes after the recent reduction in IPC costs announced by Telkom’s Openserve division. “Depending on the IPC capacity purchased, ISPs can now benefit from price reductions of up to 32%, effective from 1 June 2017,” Openserve wrote in a release issued earlier this month.

Afrihost is one of the first ISPs to adopt the decreased costs, and plans to reduce the “monthly costs of all Openserve fibre packages to pass this saving onto all current and future clients,” the company writes in a release.
“We believe fibre is the future of broadband connectivity and as such we’re focussing all our attention and resources towards making fibre a reality for as many consumers as possible,” Afrihost adds.
The company also announced an acquisition of additional IPC capacity for both fibre and DSL packages.
While DSL prices aren’t set to decrease alongside its fibre counterparts, Afrihost’s head of brand and marketing Tyler Theron does explain that the company’s DSL offerings will receive a buff from the increased IPC capacity.
“With regards to DSL we’ve invested into increased capacity to give uncapped clients an even better experience, whereas our capped prices are already being sold under cost,” he told Memeburn in a mailed response.
The new fibre pricing takes effect today.
