This is it: month six. There’s no going back now. We’re halfway through the year, and we may as well celebrate with some good old Netflix and chill (Is that still a thing? I’m getting old.)
Either way, the streaming site has a slow June, with only eight original films and shows being released globally in the month (presumably to do with its US summer schedule.) Here’s the best of what’s coming to Netflix South Africa this month.

2 June: Flaked
Will Arnett’s Flaked is back for a season two that sees Chip’s unwelcome return to Venice.
“Flaked is a dry human comedy about a slice of life centered on Chip, a celebrated long-time resident of the insular world of Venice, California who falls for the object of his best friend’s fascination,” the description reads.
The first season, consisting of 30-minute-long episodes, was met by unenthusiastic critics, but could season two provide a more compelling story about the immature man-in-crisis?
9 June: Orange is the New Black & Shimmer Lake
Editor’s note: On closer inspection of Netflix’s forthcoming series, it seems that Orange is the New Black will only be available internationally, not in Africa or, for some reason, Turkey. We have therefore removed it from this list.

Also on Netflix 9 June is Shimmer Lake, the film starring Rainn Wilson (best known as Dwight Schrute from The Office) that follows a vigilante sheriff ready to “clean” his town of criminals.
“Unfolding in reverse time, this darkly comic crime thriller follows a local sheriff hunting three bank robbery suspects, one of whom is his brother,” Netflix says.
23 June: GLOW
The second last Friday of the month brings GLOW, the 1980s women’s wrestling show remake.
Starring Alison Brie, the 10-episode-long series follows the fictional life of Ruth, an out-of-work actress whose last chance to make it big is to take on the world of glitter, spandex, and good old-fashioned women’s wrestling.
“In addition to working with 12 Hollywood misfits, Ruth also has to compete with Debbie Eagan, a former soap actress who left the business to have a baby, only to be sucked back into work when her picture perfect life turns out not to be what it seems.”
23 June also sees the addition of You Get Me, an original movie starring Bella Throne as an “out-of-towner” who seduces and confuses a taken boy before showing up at his school.
“Tyler’s crazy in love with his perfect girlfriend Ali, but when a big fight sends him spiraling, he lands in the arms of sexy out-of-towner Holly who shows him a night he won’t forget. The next morning he finds that not only is Ali taking him back, but Holly is a new student at their school and is dead set on her new man.”
28 June: Okja
Okja is the last release of the month, and one of the two films Netflix submitted to Cannes Film Festival. It’s inclusion in the competition was met with much controversy, but it didn’t stop critics from raving about the submissions.
The film tells the story of Mija, a young girl who grew up with the massive pig-like creature, Okja. When a multi-national company wants to harvest the creature for food, Mija does everything in her power to save the gentle beast.
Okja boasts a stellar cast, with Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal and Paul Dano all appearing in Bong Joon Ho’s (Snowpiercer) second English-language film.
