Welcome to Weekly Round Up, our podcast discussing the latest tech trends, innovation and news from the last few days.
This week, Andy Walker hosts Stephen Timm, Julia Breakey and Matthew Alexander.
No ad to show here.
Stephen opens the floor with a Ventureburn story about how the Spur founder, Allen Ambor, did not sell his shares despite reports to the contrary. Ambor also refused to make a firm statement on that allegedly racist incident in March.
Over on Gearburn, Andy talks of the claim that Steve Jobs created the iPhone in response to a Microsoft executive who he hated.
Finally, Andy talks us through the attempted #SocialMediaBlackout in protest of high data prices in South Africa.
What are we watching, reading, playing: Julia is watching The Leftovers, a show by Damon Lindelof of Lost. The show tells of a society dealing with the aftermath of the disappearance of 2% of the world’s population.
Stephen is watching some foreign films, notably Westen, a German film about an East German woman who grows paranoid as she investigates the past of her late lover.
Matthew just finished watching American Gods, which he won’t stop talking about. He also finished up Criminal Minds’ season twelve and season three of Scorpion. He’s currently playing Yakuza 0, but has been more focussed on kicking zombie butt in Killing Floor.
Surprisingly, Andy is not in the business of shooting zombies — instead, he’s been playing Horizon Zero Dawn because he has a crush on lead character Aloy. He’s also listening to The New York Times’ Popcast, which covers pop music news.
