#DestinyVideo: Cassper Nyovest evokes Black Mirror in latest video

South African recording artist Cassper Nyovest has created a stir on Twitter after dropping the video for his latest single “Destiny” yesterday.

The heavily stylised video takes place in the future as featuring artist Goapele walks through an expensive, minimalist house while scrolling through holographic screens.

The scene evokes imagery from the likes of Ex Machina and Black Mirror — made even more clear when it is revealed (spoilers, I guess) that Goapele is a robot Nyovest created.

Destiny was directed by Capetonian Kyle Lewis, who has helmed other videos by the likes of Nasty C and Khuli Chana.

In less than 24 hours, the video was trending in second on YouTube and third on Twitter. It has raked in over 151 000 views as of writing.

“Big ups to Cassper,” wrote one YouTube user. “Visuals are brilliant. Concept is brilliant.”

This sentiment was echoed throughout the comment section, and over on Twitter.

Nyovest’s previous video for his single “Tito Mboweni” also did well in March when it raked in 200 000 views in 24 hours. It now has over 2.4-million.

Some have used the latest video to compare Nyovest to hip-hop artist AKA, who recently released his collaborative album with Anatii Be Careful What You Wish For.
