Miss the old Google News? This website could be the answer

old google news interface

Judging by this article’s comments section, people are really, really not warming to Google News’s redesign. But don’t ditch the service just yet. There is hope if you prefer the old layout.

A website dubbed “The Old G News” is seemingly reviving the old version of Mountain View’s news aggregation tool. And it’s almost as though nothing as changed.

According to a Reddit post by a user claiming to be the site’s owner, the service is “more like a http proxy” than a complete Google News remaster.

“I get your request and I forward it and give it back to you. No cookies, no logging,” the post reads.

While the site is seemingly unaffiliated with Google or Google News, it does feature links to all common Google services in its top corner, including Images, Maps and YouTube.

Old Google News was apparently kept alive all along

Below that, you’ll find a Google Search bar and lower still, the Google News we all seem to miss dearly, including the text-heavy top stories list with sidebar on the left.

There’s even a link to RSS feeds at the foot of the page.

For heavy Google services users, there’s no way to log into Google from the site. But that’s surely a positive for security nuts.

While there are other ways to dupe Google into serving the old format to your web browser, this sure seems like the simplest way to get the old Google News back.

We’ve reached out to the author of the site, but have failed to receive a reply prior to publishing.
