After a week’s sabbatical from warming your ears, the Weekly Round Up is back.

This week, Hadlee Simons is on engineering duties as Andy Walker and Stephen Timm chat all things Memeburn, Gearburn and Ventureburn.

Covering the latter first this time around, Stephen and Andy discuss SnapnSave’s latest big investment of R14-million from Kalon Venture Partners (formerly Grotech) and retail solutions company Smollan Group SA. It’s a massive wad of cash for a company that has been riding the wave of the South African coupons market.

We then cover two huge Memeburn stories, namely Cape Town’s water consumption calculator and Disney’s future streaming platform plans.

The City of Cape Town’s latest tool helps users to visualise their water consumption

The former is the City of Cape Town’s latest attempt to help residents cut down on water consumption in the middle of one of the worst droughts in recent memory to hit the region.

Disney however is enduring no drought, at least in terms of novel ideas. Purchasing Major League Baseball’s internet company BAMTech, the company is now planning to launched a Netflix competitor showcasing its massive cartoon and movie library come 2019.

An ESPN-branded service is also mooted for 2018.

Finally, Gearburn is all smartphone-related content this week, namely from the likes of BlackBerry and Sony.

Andy chats about his experience with the BlackBerry KeyOne, while he channels his inner Hadlee to talk about the Sony Xperia XZ Premium and its slow-motion prowess.

What are we watching, reading, playing: Stephen laments his time using Metrorail, Cape Town’s rail transit service. Andy also joins in.

When not waiting for the train, Andy is currently catching up on the Overwatch World Cup qualifiers.
