Today’s taxi strike is currently affecting Cape Town’s already stressed transportation network, and is set to continue throughout the week.

With the likes of the N1, N2 and N7 shuttered at select intersections, traffic flow is largely affected leading into the city and beyond.

While Google Maps is a great way to keep abreast of traffic flow, and Google-owned Waze is an app that deserves another honourable mention, there’s another local and free service that delves deeper into Cape Town’s arterial routes.

Cape Town’s taxi strike is currently affecting traffic across the city

Dubbed i-Traffic, the resource is a joint venture between SANRAL, the Western Cape Government, the City of Cape Town.

The site allows users access to more acute traffic information including roadside traffic cameras, information boards and route status through an interactive map.

It’s more information-dense than Google Maps, and also includes realtime travel times, current issues on the transport network and road conditions.

As you can imagine, there’s plenty of traffic news today due to the taxi strike.

i-Traffic is free to use, and while there is no Android or iOS app, it also includes maps for Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
