Welcome to The Weekly Roundup, our podcast discussing the latest tech trends, innovation and news from the last few days.
This week, Andy Walker hosts Stephen Timm and Julia Breakey in studio.
No ad to show here.
We kick off the episode with a Ventureburn story about a Durban man’s endeavour to solve Cape Town’s water crisis with machines that turn air into water. The snag? They run on electricity that is created by using tons more water than what will be produced.
Over on Memeburn, Andy talks us through how one US Senator got caught liking porn on Twitter. Immediately inciting a trend for the “Zodiac killer” — and bumping up the porn page’s follower count — Ted Cruz yet again found himself in another internet pickle.
Finally, the team talks the Apple launch that revealed the latest iPhone 8, 8+, and X (pronounced “ten”, to our dismay). The phones come with wireless charging, glass backs, more screen, and presumably big price tags.
What are we watching, reading, playing: Stephen is busy working on another story for his series on how to pitch to startups; he has so far received advice from employees from Santam, Pick n Pay, and Nedbank.
Julia had the opportunity to watch It this weekend, which she enjoyed despite not finding it all that scary. She’s also still watching Archer, and is eagerly anticipating the James Franco/Seth Rogen film The Disaster Artist.
Finally, Andy is watching BoJack Horseman because he enjoys sadness. He’s also listening to Fave This, a show about fandom, internet culture and video games.
