#AirportShooting in Cape Town leaves Twitter users in shock

Cape Town International Airport

A shooting at Cape Town International Airport this morning has reportedly left two wounded and many in shock.

The shooting appears to be gang related, and EWN has reported that one of the victims is alleged gang leader Jerome Booysen. Police have yet to confirm his identity.

The victim has been taken to hospital with minor wounds to his upper body.

The airport’s official Twitter account confirmed the shooting, and assured that all other operations were to continue as usual.

Some at the airport took to Twitter to detail their experience.

But many were left bewildered by the lack of security at the international airport.

Others took the moment to criticise Police Minister Fikile Mbalula, who had previously said he was strengthening security at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg after it was hit by a series of crimes that included a multi-million rand heist.

In February, six armed robbers stole R8-million worth of jewellery from a man after he touched down in Cape Town.

Others on Twitter were upset that gang violence hadn’t been given the attention it deserved until it moved into a more prominent place like the airport.
