Can you remember the nerves you felt when walking into that exam venue to write your final paper? Twitter does, and has subsequently bestowed messages of luck to South Africa’s Matrics beginning their final exams today.

#Matric2017 began trending early Monday on the social network, as users across the country joined together to talk about something that isn’t direly depressing for a change.

Politicians, Twitterati and universities lead the conversation as ANC MEC Lindiwe Sisulu wished the students “all the best” while calling them the “future of this nation”.

Mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay Athol Trollip reiterated that the students’ “hard work will pay off”.

While the University of Johannesburg used Adam Levine as inspiration.

Other users gave hearty advice, which included completing past papers, copious amounts of revision and lots of prayer.

Others reassured Matrics that they’d be fine.

But some were more focussed on finding the perfect meme.

As for the students themselves? Some just wanted Twitter to shhh.

While others we’re as prepared as ever.

Examinations begin today, with the final paper scheduled for 29 November while results will be released in the first week of January 2018.
