MTN debuts ‘WOW’ voice bundles

Dropping data prices is oh so trendy for mobile operators right now, but what about voice packages?

MTN has announced its new “WOW” voice bundles, which aim to fill the gap for those who prefer calling contacts on their phone, or who still own feature phones.

The packages are only applicable when calling another MTN number, but are available in daily, weekly and monthly bundles.

Prices range between R3 — for seven minutes within 24 hours — and R300 — which allows for 3000 minutes to be used in a month. That’s more than enough for an hour-long conversation every day.

“The WOW voice bundles provide value as they will ensure that our customers stay connected for longer at discounted prices,” explained Mapula Bodibe, executive for customer business unit.

“The diverse options that are available give our customers the ability to purchase bundles that suit their needs, usage and budget.”

It’s an interesting play by MTN, considering that the likes of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger now also allow voice calls, albeit through data. Back in late 2015, MTN wasn’t too interested in sharing its market with the messaging service.

“The WOW bundles are only available to MTN PayAsYouGo customers, except for customers on Pay Per Second price plan,” MTN concludes.
