Update, 18 October 2017: Netflix has since clarified the pricing in an interview with Memeburn, saying that they are indeed transitioning to local currency.
“We’re working on it. It should come… hopefully very shortly,” the company’s Yann Lafargue said. “With Kwese… we have it in rands…”

But are the below prices accurate then? We posed this to the representative during a separate roundtable discussion.
“I don’t know, we have to check.”
Original article: Streaming colossus Netflix has quietly confirmed pricing in South African rand for its offering.
The company traditionally offers three subscription tiers, in the form of a US$7.99 tier, US$9.99 category and the top-end US$11.99 option.
Now, in an emailed press release ahead of a local media event, Netflix has revealed South African pricing for these tiers.
The company confirmed that the basic tier would cost R129.99 a month, the mid-tier offering has a R164.99 monthly price tag and the top-end option would cost R199.99 a month.
A press release has revealed ZAR pricing for Netflix, being rather steep at first glance
The entry level offering allows for standard definition streaming to one screen, the middle option allows for HD streaming and two simultaneous screens, while the top-end option includes 4K support and up to four simultaneous screens being viewed.
For what it’s worth, the signup page for South Africa still shows dollar pricing.
We are attending a Netflix event today and will update the article if/when we receive more clarity on ZAR pricing.
