The channel will also be available across all DStv bouquets, extending its reach as a novel marketing platform for the streaming platform.
Motivation behind VOOV’s move stems from the “youth segment who are looking for the next wave of social media to express themselves and interact with each other”.
“DStv customers can interact with the featured VJs via the app and see their comments and virtual gifts appear on TV. Outside of the three live hours, the channel showcases the best content from VOOVers across South Africa – ranging from celebrity, music and dancing to comedy and entertainment,” explained the press release.
VOOV claims that it’s the first channel of its kind in the world.
“Our brand promise is to give South Africans a platform to showcase their talents. All you need is a smartphone and the VOOV app,” explained Makhosazana Zwane-Siguqa, the head of VOOV South Africa.
“We’ve ensured that the channel is available on all DStv packages so that every South African can enjoy unfiltered live streaming content and maybe take a shot at fame themselves when the next phase of the channel starts.”
Those who are 14 years of age or older, and in possession of the Android or iOS app, can be featured on the channel.
