It’s been a record-breaking week for trailers, as Avengers: Infinity War swiftly became the first to reach over 230-million views in just 24 hours. So if you got caught up in the hype of the Marvel franchise, don’t worry: here are the other trailers you missed last week.

Highlights include: Chris Evans with a beard. Evil Loki messing with the continuity of the Thor franchise. Thanos looking like the thumb creatures from Spy Kids.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
This Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom teaser is just 15 seconds of Chris Pratt running from dinosaurs running from explosions — and, really, does it need anything more?
The sequel to the box office smash Jurassic World will release its full trailer Thursday.
The film is in South Africa 8 June 2018.
All the Money in the World
All the Money in the World has released its second trailer — except this time it stars Christopher Plummer and not sexual assault accused Kevin Spacey.
The film — which tells of the super rich J Paul Getty who refuses to pay his grandson’s ransom — was recast and reshot when news of Spacey’s predatory nature surfaced in October.
All the Money in the World is still scheduled for a 16 February 2018 release in South Africa.
People Vs Patriarchy
From the creator behind The People vs The Rainbow Nation comes the latest local documentary, The People Vs Patriarchy.
The 75-minute documentary is said to “unpack the various ways the system of patriarchy impacts the daily lives of South Africans on an intimate level”. It features interviews from the likes of musician and actor Nakhane Toure, transgender activist Glow Makatsi, poet and activist Lebohang Masango, transgender model and artist Elle van der Burg, and YouTuber Sibu Mpanza.
The film premiered on MTV on 29 November. It will be showing again tonight (4 December 2017) at 22:10.
Mary Magdalene
Here’s a film that stars Rooney Mara as Mary Magdalene and Joaquin Phoenix as Jesus, because Hollywood still thinks these people were white.
Directed by Garth Davis (Lion), the film tells of Mary’s struggles as a woman who loved, and was loved by, Jesus Christ.
Mary Magdalene hits South African shores on 23 March 2018.
Thoroughbreds
Thoroughbreds tells of two teenage girls: one who feels nothing, and one who feels everything. What do they share in common? A desire to kill their parents.
The film stars the late Anton Yelchin in his final role as Tim, the man they hire to help them.
Thoroughbreds doesn’t yet have an SA release, but will be in the US 9 March 2018.
Love, Simon
Love, Simon is a coming-of-age (and coming out) story about 17-year-old Simon Spier who hasn’t told anyone he’s gay. To make matters worse? He’s fallen for an anonymous classmate online — and he has no idea who they are.
Based on the novel Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli, the film stars Nick Robinson, Katherine Langford, Alexandra Shipp, Jennifer Garner, Josh Duhamel and Colton Haynes. Catch it in SA on 23 March 2018.
Permission
Permission is a rom-com about a couple who has only ever been with each other — until they decide it’s time to open up their relationship. Hijinx, jealousy, and self-discovery ensue.
The film stars Dan Stevens and Rebecca Hall. It doesn’t have an SA release, though it will be in the US 9 February 2018.
Cable Girls
Netflix’s Spanish melodrama Cable Girls is back, and it seems as bright and dramatic as ever.
The first season tells of four women from around Spain brought to 1928 Madrid to work for a budding telecommunications company. Jealousy, envy and betrayal become the orders of the day.
Cable Girls season two premieres on Netflix 25 December.
Black Mirror
Black Mirror released three episode trailers for its fourth season this week. Above is Metalhead, the artsy greyscale episode seemingly about a woman fighting for survival and the chance to see home again.
This is the trailer for Hang the DJ, about a device that lets couples on dates check their expiry dates — presumably for their relationship.
Finally, the trailer for Black Museum teases a tourist attraction filled with items that “did something bad”.
Netflix has still not revealed a release date for the fourth season, and I’m personally hoping for a stealth drop. Let’s see you pull a Beyoncé, Netflix. Be brave.
