You can now ‘Mute’ that annoying, trendy friend on Instagram

Great news, everyone. You can now mute your annoying Instagram friend vested in the art of smoothie making and selfie taking (sometimes together), after the social network introduced a new feature Tuesday.

“The new feature lets you hide posts in feed from certain accounts, without unfollowing them. With this change, you can make your feed even more personalized to what matters to you,” the company writes in its blog, dodging the entire reason this problem exists: its algorithm.

Nevertheless, users who want to mute others on the social network can now do so via the three-dot menu button on posts themselves.

Tap it, and a drop down menu will appear with the usual options of “Report” and “Unfollow”. However below the latter, a “Mute” option is now visible. Tap that.

“From there, you can choose whether to mute posts, or mute posts and stories from an account. You can also mute posts and stories by pressing and holding on a story in your tray, or from a profile,” Instagram explains.

And in case you’re wondering, reverse chronological feed is still a cuss word at Menlo Park.
