(The app has been available on the Play Store for a few months, launching back in February).

YouTube Go, which is a lighter, thriftier version of YouTube for low powered smartphones and low bandwidth networks, weighs in at around 9.5MB. The standard YouTube app is around 25MB.
Additionally, YouTube Go features a simpler user interface, keeping in tune with Google’s other Go apps, and allows users to tune their YouTube experience to consume less data.
“YouTube Go provides transparency in how users are using their data, allowing them to reduce their data consumption,” the company writes in a release.
“It also provides a social experience, connecting users with the people and content they care about.”
Speaking of that social experience, YouTube Go also allows users to choose the resolution of downloaded videos, and “lets users wirelessly transfer videos to nearby devices, without using any data,” Google claims.
The app joins a long line of Go apps already launched by Google including Maps Go, Google Go and Files Go.
Although the app will come standard on Android Go smartphones (like the Nokia 1, Huawei Y3 2018 and Vodacom Smart Kicka 4),It can be downloaded for other Android devices here.
