Google’s graveyard is about to get bigger by one more service.

Following in the vein of Reader, Wave and Picasa, Google’s Inbox email app will be killed off from March 2019, the company announced on Wednesday.

Inbox, which debuted in 2014, is a radical redesign of Google’s more tradition email management app Gmail.

In an article covering its launch, we called it “a cross-breed between Facebook’s News Feed and Google Now, with highlights of your travel itineraries, pictures and the works; all looking colourful.”Goo

But from 2019, users will either have to find a new email management app, or use Gmail. This Google doesn’t see as an issue, as it will become its primary development for emails going forward.

It also noted that a number of features that made Inbox unique would make it into its other email service.

“As Gmail continues to improve, we’re bringing the best features from Inbox. In the new Gmail, you’ll find workflows that are similar to your favorite ones in Inbox,” the company explains on its Inbox support page.

Snoozing or following up on emails, hover actions and Smart Reply were all first trialed on Inbox and was implemented into Gmail more recently.

However, not all features are available as yet. Bundles — which learns which mails you want to see and groups them — hasn’t yet been bolted onto Gmail.

Inbox users however took a more pessimistic view though, with many calling Google to overhaul the UI of Gmail.

“How about a good UI? Is a good UI coming to Gmail? Because that’s why I use Inbox,” one user tweeted Google’s Inbox Twitter account.

Others were more frank.

“Wow. You guys really know how to get people hooked then kill their dreams. We’ll build our own Inbox,” tweeted another.

If you haven’t yet used the app, you have just six months before its forgotten forever.
