Facebook is launching new privacy features in honour of Data Privacy Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about online privacy.
The new features include a Privacy Checkup, a notice from Facebook reminding you to review your privacy settings.
No ad to show here.
According to the company, the check up will remind you about who you allow to see posts, who can see your information, what information you’re publicly displaying and which apps have access to your Facebook profile.
The feature, which will pop up on your News Feed, will roll out globally over the next fortnight.
Facebook is also launching a new Privacy and Data Use Business Hub, a platform that “centralizes resources that businesses can use to understand how they can protect people’s information when using Facebook”.
“This new hub contains information on topics like our Ads and Privacy Principles, how data is used in our ad products, and guidance to help companies understand rules,” the company explains.
Another upcoming feature, Clear History, will launch in the next few months. The tool will outline what information Facebook is taking from your online activity.
“This year we’ll do more to explain how Facebook uses people’s data and provide people with more transparency and control,” Facebook noted.
Last year the company was under heavy scrutiny for its suspected use of private user information, most notably in the wake of the Cambridge Analytica scandal.
