Microsoft on Tuesday ceased selling ebooks on its Microsoft Store.
“Starting April 2, 2019, the books category in Microsoft Store will be closing,” the company announced on its support page.

This means that users can no longer purchase or pre-order new books on the online store.
Customers who have already placed pre-orders will, however, receive a refund.
“Refund processing for eligible customers start rolling out automatically in early July 2019 to your original payment method,” Microsoft noted.
Users can still read books they’ve bought on the platform until July, and the company will give a full refund for these books as well.
“If you have made mark-ups or annotations in any of your acquired books prior to April 2, 2019, you’ll receive an additional $25 credit to your Microsoft account at the same time refunds are processed,” the company explained.
All books will be removed from the store, including free editions.
“You can continue to read books you’ve rented through the duration of the rental period.”
Microsoft has not revealed the reasons behind the purge.
