Microsoft on Monday began rolling out the latest May 2019 update for Windows 10 to members of its Insider Program.
Insiders now have the opportunity to download and test the update before it’s released to a wider range of users.

“The May 2019 Update will remain in the Release Preview ring for an increased amount of time in order give us additional time and signals to detect any issues before broader deployment,” the company said on its blog.
This comes after issues with the October 2018 update caused many users files to disappear. It seems that Microsoft is extending the Preview period to make sure such incidents do not happen again.
An earlier post by the company’s corporate VP Mike Fortin revealed that the company intends to improve updates altogether.
“With the release of the Windows 10 May 2019 Update, we are introducing new features that provide additional clarity and control over the update experience, both for feature updates and optional monthly non-security updates,” Fortin explained.
One of these new features comes in the form of a new “download and install now” option, which will gives users a direct way to install updates immediately.
Users will also be able to extend their paused updates for up to 35 days with the May 2019 update.
“To further enhance active hours, users will now have the option to let Windows Update intelligently adjust active hours based on their device-specific usage patterns,” Fortin also noted.
The May 2019 update will start rolling out to all Windows 10 users by the end of May.
