Remember BBM? The messaging platform that all the cool kids in the early 2000s used instead of Mxit? Well, it’s coming to an end for Android and iOS users.
On Friday 31 May, the once BlackBerry-owned messaging service will be terminated for good citing more successful competition.

“Three years ago, we set out to reinvigorate BBM consumer service, one of the most loved instant messaging applications, as a cross-platform service where users can not only chat and share life experiences, but also consume content and use payment services,” the company wrote in an April announcement.
While speaking to Memeburn in 2017, BBM CEO Matthew Talbot believed that the chat app still had enough of an impact to be one of the world’s two biggest behind WhatsApp. This hasn’t quite come to fruition though.
Users who still happen to have a BBM account will no longer be able to log in to the app from 31 May.
There is some good news for the uber nostalgic and BlackBerry faithful. Those who still have BlackBerry devices running BlackBerry OS, BBM will continue to function as BBM on these devices functions as a separate service.
