Google reveals new Digital Wellbeing tools for Android Q

Google on Tuesday revealed some new additions to its Digital Wellbeing features for Android Q that will help users better control how much time they spend on their smartphones.

“We’re making several improvements to existing features, such as giving you more visibility into the status of your app timers, and allowing Wind Down to be scheduled by day of the week,” the company said on its blog.

A new “Gentle” notifications feature will now, when active, send you silent notifications that do not vibrate or appear on the lock screen.

Users will be able to set new goals for screen time as well, which will encourage them to maintain their set usage limits.

This is in addition to Focus Mode, a feature the company revealed at Google I/O last week that lets users pause distracting apps.

Google is also bringing its app timer feature to Chrome on Android, which will allow users to “set time limits on specific websites”.

Though these new features are meant to expand and improve Digital Wellbeing, the company has not yet addressed concerns that the tool itself is actually slowing down Pixel phones.
