Trying out a new restaurant but have no idea what to order? Google Maps will now highlight a restaurant’s most popular dishes enjoyed, photographed and rated by users within the app.
The feature uses a “machine learning algorithm that matches dish names, provided by Google Maps users, with relevant photos and reviews”.
No ad to show here.
To get this info however, Google Maps requires users to take pictures of their dishes (before they dig in), add a dish name, and review them afterwards.
“This creates a handy arrangement of a restaurant’s most popular meals right at your fingertips in Google Maps,” the company added in the announcement.
Tapping on a restaurant on Maps will open the overview. Dish highlights will be located in this section.
“Dive into the menu tab to scroll through all the most-talked about meals, and tap on a popular dish to explore reviews and photos,” Google noted.
Notably, reviews will also be translated to your language of choice when travelling.
The feature will roll out globally starting Thursday.
