He may spend all day balancing books, but Tito Mboweni seemingly also knows how to balance those flavours.

The minister of finance, unofficial minister of cooking, and politician with the tastiest Twitter feed in South Africa on Tuesday took to the social network for a lunchtime beef stew tutorial.

For the past four hours, a tasty meal starring beef steaks, peppers, carrots and “shito” — a pepper sauce from Ghana — has been cooking on the minister’s stove top.

He’s also taking South Africa through the process step-by-step.

But wow, does it look good.

“There is something about cooking which soothes the soul. Removes stressful things and makes one a better person. There is nothing lower class about cooking,” he tweeted, taking a brief break from photography to philosophise.

Then he added some wine.

And the final result:

This isn’t the first time Mboweni has entertained his 380 000 Twitter followers with an episode of Masterchef. In May, the minister of finance made a chicken stew with a whole lot of garlic. His cooking tutorials are slowly garnering meme status among South Africa’s gastronomes.

Edit: updated the article with the final tweeted image from Tito Mboweni.
