A Google Cloud outage on Sunday plunged most of North America and some of Europe into the 1980s.
Services like Gmail, Google’s G Suite, YouTube, chat service Discord, video service Vimeo, and social networking giant Snapchat faced downtime, as they rely on Google’s Cloud networking infrastructure.

“We are investigating an issue with Google Compute Engine,” Google wrote on its Cloud status dashboard. At the time of writing, many of the issues have been remedied.
It’s not clear what caused the issue, but Google noted that it had experienced “high levels of network congestion in the eastern USA, affecting multiple services in Google Cloud, G Suite and YouTube” on Sunday.
Thankfully, it doesn’t seem that South Africa was affected at all.
