Microsoft on Tuesday revealed “a new layer of security” for its cloud storage service called OneDrive Personal Vault.
The Personal Vault will be accessible through OneDrive using “strong” methods of identification, such as fingerprints, PIN codes and face scanning.

“Your locked files in Personal Vault have an extra layer of security, keeping them more secured in the event that someone gains access to your account or your device,” Microsoft explained on its website.
The company also noted that users can access their OneDrive Personal Vault from both their PCs and smart devices.
“You can use the OneDrive for mobile app to scan documents, take pictures, or shoot video directly into your Personal Vault, keeping them off less secure areas of your device—such as your camera roll,” the company also revealed.
Microsoft noted that files saved in one’s Personal Vault are encrypted on the cloud, and the vault locks automatically when inactivity occurs.
The Personal Vault will roll out in Canada, New Zealand and Australia “soon”, while it is expected to launch globally at the end of 2019.
